DECEMBER 19–Update from the Trenches

Caitlin has new working lungs, but the rest of her is struggling, and she needs all the energetic help she can get, along with everything her incredible doctors are giving her.

1. Her liver is still in tough shape, but the numbers were slightly better this morning.

2. She’s producing a lot of lactate, which generally indicates lack of tissue oxygenation, but they are not sure from where. We need to get that number down, and ensure adequate tissue oxygenation.

3. On ECMO, a patient’s pulses are checked constantly. They’ve lost detection of a pulse in her left leg/foot, which is her non-ECMO leg, but it is too risky to bring her back to the OR to try and figure out what is happening here.

Normally, transplant patients are forced out of bed, even in pain, right away, to get them moving, but that’s impossible right now. We have to take it one hour at a time.

That’s our update. We’re so thankful we are on the other side of this battle, but she’s been dropped right back into the trenches, immobile and very beaten up.

  1. Praying and sharing this as widely as possible. Friends of friends of friends are praying for Caitlin – and will send the request to direct all positive energy to her.

Sending you all as much love as I can give and hope that it surrounds you all – and blankets Caitlin in strength to kickstart healing.

    Light and love xo

  2. Praying every moment for strength and healing for Caitlin. Sharing and asking the ever widening circle of supporters to add their prayers and energy. Sending love.

  3. Keep fighting, dear Caitlin! We’re all here with you and covering you in prayer. Those beautiful new lungs are ready to fuel your body as you work your way out of the trenches.

  4. Thinking of you and send healing love! Many years ago my husband was in the ICU with some of the same dangers and I remember this difficult vigil. I would lightly put my hands on him and try to send healing prayer through them. It worked!.

  5. Fire hoses of healing energy, strength, recovery and prayers for Caitlin. Onward and upward. #I_believe #hugsfromashland

  6. I found a card from her today, about her comments on a story from about exactly a year ago. Nothing profound but seeing her words to me felt very special. She signed it with a heart and a little sketch of a Christmas tree. On the front is a tiny bird in winter. I have it up on the fridge now.

I am praying for her and talking directly to her, all the time. This is all so scary but I continue to have the utmost faith in her doctors and in HER. Her bravery and fighting spirit have long inspired me and continue to do so especially now.

  7. Thank you for the updates, sending so much positive energy and picturing a functioning liver and a pulse for that leg.

  8. Yes, thank you for the updates as we all live through this thinking of you all the time. Sending light and energy. xxxx

  9. Prayers from our home are never-ending. Sending love to all of you, including little Henry from all of us – elaine, abbey mia, harper and piper.

  10. Miraculous Invocation to St. Therese

    O Glorious St. Therese,
whom Almighty God has raised up to aid
    and inspire the human family,
    I implore your Miraculous Intercession.

You are so powerful in obtaining every need
of body and spirit from the Heart of God.
Holy Mother Church proclaims you “Prodigy of Miracles…
the greatest saint of Modern Times.”

Now I fervently beseech you to answer my petition
To guide Caitlin back to health
and to carry out your promises of
spending heaven doing good on earth…
of letting fall from Heaven a Shower of Roses.

Little Flower, give me your childlike faith,
to see the Face of God
in the people and experiences of my life,
and to love God with full confidence.

    St. Therese, my Carmelite Sister,
I will fulfill your plea “to be made known everywhere”
and I will continue to lead others to Jesus through you.

Adding extra prayers to the Saints to bring Caitlin back to health. xoxo -Mo

  11. God love Caitlin & we have a ton of people praying for her recovery, Maryanne!

    Love to all of you,

  12. Just added prayers for beautiful and brave Caitlin on the devotions of St. Therese’ prayer line. I’m confident the Society of the Little Flower will hear our petitions!!! We’re screaming pretty loudly. Thank you for the updates.

  13. Go liver go!!!! The Hruby family is all pulling for you, Caitlin! So happy about your beautiful new lungs! Hope that leg wakes up ASAP. Thanks Maryanne for keeping such an amazing, brave chronicle. You are an inspiration.

  14. Thoughts and prayers. I was a nurse practitioner with the lung transplant team at The university of Pittsburgh. They are truly amazing. And they care for their patients like family. ❀️

  15. Go liver go!!!! The whole Hruby family is pulling for you, Caitlin! Hope that legs wakes up ASAP. Thanks for keeping such an amazing, brave chronicle, Maryanne! You are an inspiration.

  16. Storming the heavens for Caitlin! Passionate Jesus give Caitlin & her family the strength they need during these critical hours… Hugs.

  17. I can’t really catch my breath… I keep coming back here every 15 minutes to check – wanting so badly to see positive news. Doug and I were just talking about it and he reminded me how fraught with peril the first 24 hours post op were because the body has to settle from all the trauma and accept the new organ… he sends love with me.

  18. You are in my thoughts & I continue to pray for strength, peace, and healing for Caitlin. I have been sharing her courageous fight with my circle and asking everyone to send their love, prayers, and support. πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

  19. Summoning Saint Anthony now. Unfailing Prayer to Saint Anthony:

“Blessed be God in His Angels and in His Saints”
O Holy St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, your love for God and Charity for His creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Encouraged by this thought, I implore you to obtain healing for Caitlin, peace and comfort for her parents, family and friends. O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the sweet Infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms; and the gratitude of my heart will ever be yours. Amen

So much love and prayers for the O’Hara family traveling the world! xoxo Mo
